kindling

run rush ride rumble
feel the earth beneath you crumble

summer dreams within its shadows
winter whispers vows to none

wish wake want wonder
tear uncertainties asunder

oceans rage from silent waters
forests flourish in the shade

brace bear bleed and blare
burn with amaranthine glare

heavens beam behind the darkness
daylight breaks before the sun

o, mothers! let your children
swing and swell and swoop and swagger
scream and scud and shoot and stagger
dive down deep from sunken wombs
awake the dying in their tombs

and annul the still passing
of a life that still can be restored

trust touch twirl tumble
every step to every stumble
every fall will keep them humble
